Day 20
Today we boarded a train in Amsterdam and headed to Dusseldorf. It's a great time to be visiting the area, there is a ton going on. Today was the kick off for Oktoberfest in Munich, and Dusseldorf has it's own version going on. We found a great spot for dinner down on the Rhein and enjoyed some brats and schnitzel.

Today was a day full of street festivals. We started with a walk to the tower for a great view of the city. There are some very interesting buildings, some even had gardens and grass growing on the roofs. From the top of the tower we spotted our first festival of the day. It was some sort of festival for kids. It was very elaborate and had tons of cool activities like archery, climbing walls and obstacle courses. As we continued up the promenade we came across the KIT museum. It's an old tunnel that was used when they were building something else but now they use it as an art gallery. The space was really cool, the art on display was interesting but not that great. Next we wandered away from the Rhein and came across Strassenfest. There were lots of vendors selling things, bands playing, a fashion show and some random guys dressed up on stilts. The streets were packed. Later, we found another festival going on in the Old Town and listened to some jazz. We ended our day of German festivals watching football (soccer) at an Irish pub.

We saw one of these in Amsterdam too. Apparently if you're a guy you can find a city pissior and take a leak in the drain in the middle of the street. Haven't seen any sort of female equivalent.
There is some story in Dusseldorf about the kids doing cartwheels. The cartwheel is everywhere, even on the manhole covers.
Day 22
Today was a much more mellow day in Dusseldorf. We went to an area called Medienhafen, which had lots of interesting buildings. We found a great bridge to walk across for a spectacular view of the city. We also found a nice park for a relaxing walk. For dinner we ate at the oldest brewery in Dusseldorf (1650s) and had some traditional German food.

On our walk through the park we came across this odd glass building containing a large log.
Not really sure what it's all about, so if anyone knows feel free to clue us in.
